Athena Porter, Ph.D.
Director of Stress Management for Perfect Balance Nutrition Programs
Dr. Athena Porter has more than 20 years of experience as a behavioral health and stress therapist who is respected by the academic and the clinical community.
She received her PhD in clinical community psychology in 1999. Since then, Dr. Porter has served on the board of directors for several local and national professional organizations.
As a consultant at a multitude of hospitals, community health organizations and corporations, she has developed programs in family counseling, career counseling and addictions, including food addiction. In addition, Dr. Porter also serves as a crisis intervention consultant for the military and an adjunct professor in psychology at Chicago City Colleges.
She has done research in the relationship of stress with hypertension
Though comfortable in corporate settings, Dr. Porter has never abandoned her love for working with individual patients, especially those with obesity. She maintains her private practice while she continues her involvement with community. In 2006 Dr. Porter volunteered to return to Louisiana, her birthplace, in order to counsel victims of the Katrina storm disaster who suffered from immediate, legal, financial and social problems in addition to loss.
The span of Dr. Porter’s services is global, including Chicagoland, states outside Illinois and even Ghana, Africa. Her media presentations have included local cable network and National television.
All her worked has been geared towards helping others increase their self-esteem. That is why she joined the Perfect Balance Team at its inception over 20 years ago.
